LISA SCHYCK ~ Publisher • Author • Community Builder

Lisa Schyck is a publisher, author and community builder whose work celebrates the people, places and creative spirit of California’s desert communities.

A Detroit native, Lisa spent more than 20 years in Human Resources and Organizational Development, working with multinational automotive, technical and engineering companies. She holds a Master’s degree in Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Development and has studied design at The Interior Design Institute and OTIS College of Art and Design.

After moving to California’s Hi-Desert in 2020, Lisa founded The Joshua Tree Dream, an independent publishing company inspired by the artists, entrepreneurs, designers and unconventional thinkers who call the Mojave home.

She is the creator and author of the coffee-table book series Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream. The series has received media attention from the Los Angeles Times, CBS Detroit, FOX 2 Detroit, Palm Springs Life and other outlets. Volume 2, Women of the Mojave, celebrates modern-day women pioneers and explores themes of reinvention, resilience, creativity and purpose.

Lisa later partnered with artist and designer Carlos Reyes to co-found Yucca Brevifolia Magazine (YBMAG), an independent print and multimedia platform connecting the Hi-Desert, Greater Palm Springs and beyond through art, culture, community and storytelling.

At the heart of Lisa’s work is a belief that publishing can do more than tell stories, it can build community. Through her books, YBMAG and community partnerships, she works to elevate artists, independent businesses, nonprofits and the people helping shape the evolving culture of the California desert.
