Yucca Brevifolia Magazine Launches Second Issue, Expanding Its Mission to Connect Desert
Communities Through Culture, Storytelling and Social Impact
“The Vanguard of Desert Culture & The Soul of Desert Living”
JOSHUA TREE, Calif. September 2026 Yucca Brevifolia Magazine (YBMAG) proudly announces the launch of its second issue, marking an exciting new chapter for an independent publication created to celebrate, connect and elevate the communities that make California’s desert region extraordinary.
Co-founded by Lisa Schyck and Carlos Reyes, Yucca Brevifolia Magazine was created with a mission to build bridges among sister communities throughout the High Desert, Low Desert, Greater Coachella Valley and Los Angeles through meaningful storytelling and a shared appreciation for art, music, culture, business, philanthropy and the desert environment.
YBMAG is published by The Joshua Tree Dream, the independent publishing company behind the collectible book series Glimpses of the Joshua Tree Dream, which celebrates the people, homes, lifestyles and stories that define the contemporary Mojave Desert.
More Than a Magazine
Yucca Brevifolia Magazine is both a cultural publication and a social-impact platform dedicated to strengthening community connections while elevating the people and organizations helping shape the desert’s future.
Through compelling storytelling and visual journalism, YBMAG celebrates art, music, culture, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, conservation, sustainability, wellness and desert living while creating opportunities for communities to discover and support one another.
“Our vision has always been bigger than publishing a beautiful magazine,” said Lisa Schyck, Co-Founder of Yucca Brevifolia Magazine and Founder of The Joshua Tree Dream. “We want to build bridges between our communities, amplify voices that deserve to be heard and create a platform where artists, businesses, nonprofits and individuals can tell their stories. Our goal is to educate, connect and inspire.”
A Magazine With a Soul
Philanthropy is woven into YBMAG’s mission through its signature Gift of Print initiative.
Through the generosity of donors and community partners, full-page advertising space is underwritten for nonprofit organizations, providing them with a valuable platform to share their missions, programs and stories with thousands of readers.
The initiative reflects a core belief behind Yucca Brevifolia Magazine: print can be more than a medium—it can be a vehicle for impact.
YBMAG is equally committed to using its platform to raise awareness around conservation, sustainability and the protection of the Joshua tree and the fragile desert ecosystem that inspires the publication’s name and identity.
Connecting the High Desert, Low Desert and Beyond
With its second issue, Yucca Brevifolia Magazine continues expanding its reach through intentional distribution throughout the High Desert, Low Desert, Greater Coachella Valley and Los Angeles, reaching residents and visitors through carefully selected cultural, hospitality, retail and community destinations.
The publication is also moving forward as a biannual magazine, with new editions launching every February and August.
Beyond the Printed Page
Alongside its second issue, YBMAG has launched an expanded digital platform that brings its mission to readers year-round.
The new platform houses YBMAG’s editorial stories and features a free community calendar, where businesses, nonprofits, artists and community members can submit events and help connect audiences with what is happening throughout the region.
YBMAG has also launched Desert Legends, a new multimedia storytelling project celebrating the artists, makers, musicians, cultural figures and personalities whose lives and work have helped define desert culture.
Together, YBMAG’s print publication, digital platform, community calendar, philanthropic initiatives and multimedia storytelling represent an evolving vision for what an independent regional publication can become.
“Our desert is filled with extraordinary people and extraordinary stories,” Schyck said. “Yucca Brevifolia Magazine is a place for those stories to live. We want to celebrate what makes our communities unique while creating connections between them and encouraging all of us to help preserve this remarkable place for generations to come.”
Founded by Lisa Schyck and Carlos Reyes and published by The Joshua Tree Dream, Yucca Brevifolia Magazine represents a growing creative and cultural platform rooted in storytelling, collaboration, community and social impact.
