A Life Devoted to Plant Medicine

My path into plant medicine didn’t begin as a business plan. It began in a hospital room.

At 19, after a near-fatal car accident left me on life support, I was introduced to cannabis in a way I had never understood before. A respiratory therapist explained that the treatment expanding my lungs worked similarly to how cannabis functions as a bronchial dilator. At that moment, something clicked. This wasn’t rebellion. It wasn’t culture. It was medicine.

My recovery was long, and I chose to lean into plant-based support as the foundation of my healing. What started as personal necessity turned into deep study. I wanted to understand why it worked, how it worked, and how to speak about it responsibly.

That curiosity eventually brought me to Los Angeles during the early days of medical marijuana. I went on to launch one of the first medical delivery services in Venice Beach, driving across LA with my “angel ladies,” helping patients access relief at a time when the system was still finding its footing. Those were grassroots days. Education happened face to face. Trust was built one conversation at a time.

When California shifted into the regulated adult-use market in 2016, the landscape changed dramatically. The industry became bigger, louder, and more commercially driven. After two decades in the space, I pivoted. My focus expanded beyond THC and into hemp, broadspectrum cannabinoids, and a wider spectrum of plant medicine that included adaptogens, mushrooms, and traditional herbal allies. That evolution led me to Joshua Tree, where I opened Brewja Elixir.

The desert offered something LA couldn’t. Space. Slowness. Real community. Here, the work feels more personal. Brewja Elixir isn’t about trend cycles or chasing the next product drop. It has become a local resource for people curious about plant medicine and how to integrate it thoughtfully into their lives.

In a place like Joshua Tree, people arrive seeking change. Some are navigating stress. Some are exploring creativity. Some are simply ready to feel better in their bodies. What I offer is education first. How cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system. How adaptogens support stress response. How plants can complement, not replace, the body’s own intelligence.

Living in the Hi-Desert has deepened my belief in adaptation. Plants here survive extreme conditions through balance and resilience. That philosophy mirrors how I approach plant medicine. It’s not about extremes. It’s about support.

In the issues ahead, I’ll be sharing deeper dives into specific topics, offering practical, grounded education you can apply in everyday life. Next up, we’ll begin with

Cannabinoids 101, a foundational look at what they are, how they work, and why understanding them changes the entire conversation. This work has evolved over decades, from hospital rooms to LA streets to the quiet beauty of the desert. I’m grateful to continue it here.
